A very popular local lunch restaurant, as with all restaurants, there are always a few good menu items you can count on: Spicy Shrimp Po-boy, Chicken Magnolia Sandwich, Santa Fe Chicken Po-boy. Open on Thursday through Sunday evenings for dinner, dinner specials are good and when there's a band playing on the porch, the place comes alive with dancing--toddlers through adults. Great family fun!

I've eaten here 4-5 times and have not had anything subpar. I try something new everytime and it is simply AWESOME!!!!! Anytime you are close it's a MUST you go in and eat. Everyone is so nice and the food is the best around. Easily my favorite restaurant in south La. I know that is saying a lot but trust me this ole boy likes to eat!!

This was my first time here and the food was great. I had the Vegetarian Sandwich, which I got in a pita bread, portobello, peppers, onions and more, it was DELISH. I split that with my boyfriend who got the Magnolia Chicken Sandwich, boy do I WISH I had the whole thing, it was very GOOD, whatever cheese they used was DELISH! My friend got the club sandwich which she says she always gets and her husband got the Shrimp Poyboy which my boyfriend tried and said was very good. My friends son asked for something that wasn't on the plate, they had Mexican chips with beans and cheese and meat on top but it wanted it with fries, so they whipped it up for him and it was Delish! I would definitely go here again, and they have more on the menu, and at night they have live bands on Fridays. So next time I'm down, I'm going at night. :)

Got out of Baton Rouge for the day and grabbed lunch here. The quality of the food didn't seem to be a priority. The fries were soggy and sandwiches were terrible. Old and grimy interior. Definitely wouldn't recommend this place and will not be going back!

This was one of the only places open on a Sunday afternoon in Saint Francis ville LA. I'm glad they decided to take us shortly before closing this past Sunday. Out-of-towner's coming in at the last minute. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The food was very tasty. My only complaint was that the food was not hot enough. I would come back again.

Great Food & Environment! Love the Guacamole dip, and the relaxed atmosphere. We eat here anytime we visit St. Francisville.

The four of us each had a different entree, and they all arrived together, perfectly prepared, and so rapidly I thought they must have known what we wanted before we came in. Excellent food, excellent taste, excellent price, and most excellent service.

Amazing food, great prices! The patio is so nice. I have been here when a band was playing once and it was so fun, kids just dancing around. It is a beautiful jeep ride!!

I order the fish of the day, Grilled Drum, and Jim ordered the Shrimp Remoulade Salad. The drum with a crawfish cream topping was perfectly prepared. A light crust on a very good piece of fish. Cooked so the fish was firm, yet not dry. Jim's Remoulade had a good heat to it. The news yesterday means that the additional heat will give him a few more years on his lifespan. He's not a big heat lover, but it was perfect for me. The six large shrimp and crispy lettuce made it a perfect meal for a hot evening. Finished the meal off with the Creole Cream Cheesecake. Added a cup of creole coffee and have to give the meal my very coveted 5 stars. The price was twice what we normally pay in Natchitoches, but the meal was a great start to our little vacation.

What a cute little restaurant in St. Francisville. Sit outside on the patio. The service was a little on the slow side. I feel like service is almost always slower on patios though. Te spinach and artichoke dip was enjoyable. It didn't just taste like your everyday dip that I feel you get at a lot of restaurants. The children split a pizza. It looked and tasted good. I wasn't that hungry so I got the shrimp app. It was tiny and not what I was expecting. My cousin got the shrimp and grits and said it was just so/so. I would go again and give them another try.

You will be served food which neither challenges, delights nor offends your sensibilities. You will engage in a pleasantly country atmosphere. Some middle aged white dudes will play you the hits of the 1960s and 70s. You will have a distinctly average time. If you're a vegetarian you will be slightly surprised at the volume of vegetarian entrées available. When you leave you will feel neither disappointment nor jubilation. You will not feel thrifty not cheated. You will feel fed.

Why do people give a raving review and only leave 4 stars? If I could I would this place10 stars. Food is fantastic, extremely comfortable, casual, and homey. Exactly what you expect from a small city in Louisiana. Louisiana charm with food that matches.

I was in town for a wedding and looking for a place to grab lunch. Ended up going to Magnolia and ordered half of a muffaletta. It was so large that my boyfriend and I could have just split the half in halves. It was very good and the service was great. The only complaint was that there was a bit too much mayo on the sandwich, but I should have asked them to go light on the mayo.

Had the lunch hamburger steak, wife had the grilled chicken. If you like Parmesan and garlic, try the sensational salad, AWESOME!!

The mag was a great surprise! I wasn't expecting much and this place exceeded my expectations. A really fun casual atmosphere. The food was really really good. Much more to choose from on the menu than I had expected. Everything I sampled was pretty good! The pizza was delicious. Live music on a Friday was fun, the Gary Bello band I think, and they played a fun country selection. Festive lighting all over and adequate seating. Waitress was super friendly but sometimes I felt she forgot about our drink order probably just due to many drink orders? After all, this was Louisiana on a Friday night! I would say this place is one of the top choices for food in St. Francisville!

Good food and good service. Amazing chocolate chip cookies! I went there for lunch, but they started serving entrees after 5 on Thursday-Saturday.

Good straight ahead Louisiana lunch place. If you are in St. Francisville, this is a good standbye. You also may want to to try Eight Sisters across the street, which is supposed to be good soul food, but it was closed when I was there.

Magnolia Cafe is a typical hole-in-the wall place from first glance. The parking lot is all gravel, the restaurant is located in an old house, and it's very crowded. Going inside, it was very easy to get a table, despite the full lot, and the service was excellent. Their cheese fries go beyond your standard ones with some cheese on top as there is copious amount of cheese almost as if the cheese were fried with the fries. The spicy shrimp poboy is good--they are small, gumbo shrimp but are extremely tasty. Also, the prices are extremely reasonable for a small-town restaurant with a good reputation. It's unfortunate there aren't more reputable restaurants of the same caliber as Magnolia Cafe.

highway 61 revisited. chuck prophet and the mission express! thanks to james for arranging my second jameson more jameson and less ice. sorry we camped in my mystery machine in your parking lot. the authorities attempted to hold me accountable for my, er, improvised domestic arrangement at 3am--- i was nearly smeared as a mere vagrant. or a purveyor of disorderly conductery. also, can you carry an india pale ale of some sort?

I split the vegetarian pizza with my Mom. It was the best pizza I have had, it was excellent. The vegetables were nice and crispy and there was a big variety of them on the pizza. We highly recommend it!

Great if you like mediocre food I would rather go to McDonald's. The Bluemoon however was very good.I ordered the nachos and they tasted like the oven or as if they were cooked next to a pizza. We also ordered the crab claws as an appetizer which was lacking flavor. The one positive was The crawfish dip which was very flavorful but the bread that it was served on was stale. .

Local and lovely, The Magnolia Cafe is a delightful surprise. The service was exceptional and the food: fantastic. The sweet tea is southern sweet and the live music is as authentic as the po-boy.

If your in St. Francisville this is where you want to eat. Its a great spacious restaurant serving all kinds of food and specials. Try the specials and the homemade soups that rise above the rest. I had a great cup of chili and a club sandwich both were excellent. The prices are affordable too.

I got half chicken sandwich with the celebration salad and he got the French dip. Delicious! The atmosphere was casual and comfortable. I would say don't order the French fries. We were full enough without and hardly touched them.

While we were spending the day in St. Francisville (plantation home tours!!), a local recommended the Magnolia Cafe for lunch. This cafe is very casual and has a diverse menu!! We were extremely pleased with our meals and dessert. The waiter was very friendly, prompt, and efficient. Our meals were delicious and were served quite promptly. We learned that many of the other diners were 'regulars' - either being 'locals' or eating here each time they were near the town!! THAT is a recommendation!! And - we agreed with them that the Magnolia Cafe provides a dining experience NOT to be missed!!!

Magnolia Cafe is a casual and unpretentious little restaurant with friendly service in beautiful St. Francisville. While in the area recently we stopped in for lunch. We chose to start with the Fried Alligator Bites. Score!! These are sooo delicious. They come with a dipping sauce that is mayo based (I believe) and it was really tasty, but honestly the alligator bites were so good they could have stood alone. The next time I come here I am going to order this appetizer as my meal. For my entree I picked the Spicy Shrimp Poboy. Another winner!! Imagine this...shrimp in garlic butter with pepper jack cheese, bell pepper, onions, lettuce and tomato served on Poboy bread. Holy spicy yumminess!! If you're ever in St. Francisville do yourself a huge favor and get to Magnolia Cafe. You can thank me later.

Another great meal thanks to Yelp. One day driving through St. Francisville. I was pretty hungry; so hungry that I would bite someone. That clued me in that I should probably stop driving around taking photos and find a restaurant. The first thing I did was search Yelp and low and behold, this place popped up. When I was driving around trying to find this place, I wasn't having very good luck. It is located off of the main road behind another business and is across from a hotel looking building. Once I passed it a few times, I finally figured it out and headed in. The first thing I noticed was that the restaurant had a very homey feel. The way we were greeted was so friendly that you would think we were locals despite this being the first visit. The restaurant has several separate, but connected rooms. Our table was towards the back of one of the rooms. I can only assume they put us back there because they assumed, incorrectly I might add, that we were a rowdy bunch. Whatever the reason, I liked being in the corner with a good view of the restaurant. Figuring I couldn't go wrong with a burger, that's what I ordered, but I had mine on French. The burger was perfectly cooked and used a hand formed patty. My only complaint was that the bread did not have the traditional New Orleans crunch. It was more of a soft bread which was good, but not what I was used to. Service was extremely friendly. The waitress had a perfect southern drawl and reminded me a little of Earlene from True Blood. If you find yourself in St. Francisville, this is a great place to stop.

I called ahead because we were celebrating my daughters11th birthday. I spoke to Robin and she was very accommodating. She said they would put a sign on her chair and just to call when we were close since they dont take reservations. I called when we arrived and they had forgotten. No big deal because I know they had good intentions. She felt bad enough to send me an email apologizing and explained that they even discussed ordering balloons. The food was good. We ordered pepperoni pizzas, chicken artichoke pesto pizza, shrimp poboy and cookies for dessert. The server was very nice. They ended up treating my daughter to a slice of chocolate pie and decorated the chalkboard outside(see pic) Overall we had a very nice time and would recommend anyone in the area to dine here.

Visited here on October 25th with my family as we passed through town on our way to Baton Rouge. The restaurant was PACKED for lunch and we were unfortunately sat at a very small high top table next to the single stall bathroom and the kitchen door. Other than the lousy seating we had a fabulous time! I had the spicy shrimp po'boy and it was incredibly large definitely would have been enough to share and oh so tasty! They don't have a children's menu but do have a few appetizer options including chicken fingers and grilled cheese that will satisfy most tiny humans. All in all it was a nice lunch stop. If you can sit in the screened in porch area.

The atmosphere is wonderful in this small town cafe. There's a large selection of items on the menu (although I've heard to stay clear of the Mexican section). We had the Bluesy Salad (quite good) and the hamburger, which was good. The fries are a little bland and required salt. Overall, the service was great.

Casual family-friendly restaurant. Super-friendly service, good food, and had a nice country feel to it. I went here this past Tuesday for lunch with a friend. My friend ordered the Chicken Florentine sandwich served on french bread (chicken, spinach, dijon mustard, and pepper cheese). I ordered the soft-shell crab with garlic mashed potatoes. $8 for the sandwich. $22 for the soft-shell plate. Kind of pricey for what you get on the soft-shell plate. My friend enjoyed her sandwich and my food was rather appetizing! Our waitress was so sweet and really enjoyed chatting with us. She was also very attentive to all of her other customers in the midst of all this chattiness. Bonus star for the service! Will be back next time in St Francisville.

Went there for lunch today, I was very happy with my soup and sandwich! I had a crab and spinach soup and a chicken sandwich. My boyfriend being vegetarian also had a few options on the menu which isn't always easy. The service was very friendly.

I had the gator bites and the muffaletto sandwich. The alligator tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. The sandwich was awesome as well. Just a nice causal, local joint. I'll definately be back.

Best if you can find a night they have live music but also great on a Saturday afternoon..... Can't go wrong ever with The Mag....comfortable and relaxed atmosphere with good food, good service and you always see somebody you know there, whether you want to or not! ha!

We had a great time at the Magnolia Cafe. The service was great, the food was great, and the live music was a wonderful addition! We had the spinach dip, the fried alligator, the motherload pizza, and the spinach, chicken, and feta pizza and all were great, but the fried alligator were hands down the best I've ever had.

Food is just ok. Service was terrible on the day we went. Not once did anyone even check on us to see if we needed refills or anything, though the restaurant was almost empty. We go to st. Francisville once a year and this is the second bad experience we have had at this restaurant. Won't be back.

Great casual family restaurant. Service was very friendly, nice menu selections, affordable prices. The veggie sandwich in a pita was delicious! I forget which sandwiches the others in my group ordered since I was so focused on my sandwich. :)

I would avoid going right after church on Sunday. It is very busy and the service was slow and confused. That happens so I make allowances. The food was okay, but nothing special. I think that it would have been better if we had gone on another day or at another time. It is clear that they have expanded the place considerably over time, but may not have expanded the kitchen. The lay out of the building suggests that the building code in St Francisville is not particularly strict. This leads to a lot of confusing and congestion with the serving staff. There are definitely not enough bathrooms for the number of patrons on a busy day. The wait line for the bathroom was about 20 minutes. As is most often the case, I will give them another try when traveling that way.

I had this place tonight. It was an ok experience. It has a small town feel and the bartender was pretty good. I had a magnolia special sandwich and it was pretty decent.

They have a huge screened porch which makes for a nice spot to enjoy a beer and a sandwich. The restaurant itself is far enough off the road so you don't see/hear any traffic. Service is good. Grilled cheese and fries were ok. Seafood enchilada not great. Probably wise to stick with the basics here.

It was more of a Contemporary American menu which was a pleasant surprise as this restaurant is set in a very small town, and has a very rustic feel. They have an expansive porch for spring and fall. I wish I could give this establishment four and a half stars. The place was great but not perfect. I had the Magnolia Chicken Sandwich and some fries. I previously read a glowing review of this establishment that mentioned the sanwich, Kristin I believe. Anyway, saw the menu and it sounded good. The one problem with the food was the choice of bread. As there was a lot to bite through, I would have perferred a heartier bread, this one fell apart. The only other problem that I saw was that it was my first time, and at the front door, there is no one to greet you. You just kind of have to figure it out yourself. Anyway, great service (past the front door), good food, and a very nice, rural atmosphere. Nice, very nice.

Love, love, love the Mag. I'm a local, and always see someone I know. The food is stellar (especially the Chicken Mag and my current usual, the fried shrimp Poboy) and so is the service. Kid friendly, take out, occasional live music. A must for everyone who visits the 'Ville.

This is THE place to eat in St. Francisville... granted there aren't that many restaurants, but it is really a great place. The original unfortunately burned down a few years back, but the new place out back has gotten some charm of its own. I have been countless times and the service is always great and the food is delicious. The restaurant is laid back but still fits in well with the historic town and old oak trees with spanish moss... It is always busy, but it never takes too long to get a table. Also, call and see when bands are playing in the evenings. A MUST do if you are staying in town or hungry nearby.

After reading the reviews, we decided to try this place. We were not disappointed. We figured we'd have to wait for a table, since the parking lot was packed, but were able to be seated immediately. The server was super nice and offered suggestions. The gator bites were great. I definitely recommend them. I got the hamburger steak with onion and mushroom gravy and my wife got the hamburger with fries. Both were delicious. A couple of evenings later we went back and got the hummus appetizer. My wife ordered the fried shrimp dinner and I got the grilled pork chop special. Once again, we were not disappointed. We'll definitely be back.

Gator balls of fire! We're visiting from SoCal and all the hubby talked about was wanting to eat some alligator. These breaded, fried nuggets were tender and seasoned with just the right amount of heat. We didn't really need it, but I'm so glad I ordered a bowl of the Soup of the Day: Shrimp & Corn (red-based)...nice, deep flavor! Next was the Muffaletto. I was never a big fan of olives, but I've recently begun acquiring a taste for them. I finally see why this sandwich is so famous. Half of a half is still a good sized portion. I was intrigued by the Spicy Shrimp Po' Boy since it used grilled vs. fried shrimp, but this dish was just good and not great after all the aforementioned standouts. We went for lunch with the folks, but if we're ever around on a weekend night, I'd love to come for the live music out on the patio.

Good food. Fun & laid back environment. The pizza is delicious & loaded with toppings. I tried fried gator for the first time & the dipping sauce was great. The service was pretty good. We had a large group & didn't have any issues with order accuracy. The spicy shrimp po boy was pretty good, but needed a little something else. The salads are huge, fresh, & delicious. I would probably return here.

Magnolia Mmmmmeals if you order correctly.. we stopped by after Warrior Dash 2013. The Magnolia sandwich was average...that was the only downfall of our lunch. What was mmmm..good was the soup du jour: the shrimp with lima beans had lots of fresh shrimp and just enough beans. The taste had a little kick of spice with a warm heartful finish. The new menu item: jalapeno gator balls are by far the best my husband and I have had from Baton Rouge to New Orleans. When the gator balls were dipped into the ranch spicy dipping sauce another layer of flavours was added. The crispy gator balls were very succulent and not overcooked, which allowed one to distinguish the quality of individual ingredients. My husband ordered the steak fajitas. Nicely flavored beef on a sizzling hot skillet. The sauce abd fajitas came from a store brand and not made there. The soup and gator balls were so yummy that we ordered to go since it's not likely we'll be back to St. Francisville anytime soon, but if we do go, we know where to go and what to eat!
